What were your biggest challenges before GameDevHQ?
I used to work as a web developer, and then I moved to the USA. Now I am working on a lot of different things.
At the beginning of this year, I started a new position as a Unity developer for a local company here in Miami. One of the main challenges is that I did not know what I wanted to do for a living when I got here.
I studied computer science in my country, but I did not know what branch of it to select for a living. I tried web development and mobile development, and that was so boring for me until I played a game called Celeste.
I realized I could make something like that game, and I began to be curious about the video game industry. My first plan was to make a game for myself.
When I saw that GameDevHQ is designed to build the skills you need to be a professional game developer, I thought it was amazing and had to sign up.
What results did you see after signing up with GameDevHQ?
At the beginning of this year, I got a job as a Unity developer with a local company that has a 2D platform, educational games for kids. I really enjoy my work, and it is exactly what I want to do.
What is unique about GameDevHQ’s support system?
GameDevHQ offers a community that can help you with all your problems. It is not only the coaches who support you, it is also the other students.
They have coaches that you can ask anything about game development, the courses, or about your online profiles. They guide you to make things as good as possible, and really help to prepare you for interviews.
What makes GameDevHQ different from free resources?
GameDevHQ is so much better than other courses because they have a learning path. You can find any information on YouTube, but you are going to find the right course structure on YouTube.
With free resources, you do not know how to start or how to continue. GameDevHQ gives you a clear path and helps you reinforce the learning along the way by getting you to write articles and reviews of specific topics.
I want to apply to a VR Unity developer position, and they always ask for a portfolio that addresses the job requirements. I now have work I can show in situations like this.
Was the Professional Unity Developer Program worth the investment?
I totally recommend the program. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to start in the game industry. No matter your level of experience, they are going to show you the path to start in the industry. Even if you do not find a job, you are going to learn a lot.
